I’m currently playing Final Fantasy. Just… Final Fantasy. The first one. The one with no numbers after it. It’s my kickoff for a goal to play (or replay, as the case may be) all of the FF games that I have access to, since I haven’t played most of them in ages.
It’s slow but steady going, for no other reason than the fact that I’m trying to squeeze my FF time in between things like writing, drawing, working, and playing other games. Still, I’ve reached a comfortable point where I’m playing for an hour or two a day, and having a whole lot of fun.
And now for the Android’s Topic of the Day: Have you ever decided to “marathon” a game series, and how did that work out for you? Did you finish?
I played Mass Effect 1 on the Xbox, but then I got Mass Effect 2 for the PC. Obviously, I then couldn’t transfer my saved game into ME2, so I just played it through with the default choices from ME1 which I ended up strongly disliking.
Steam then had a deal where I got ME1 for PC for a whopping $5. I played through the game again on Hardcore difficulty to unlock Insanity. I then played through Insanity and transferred my level 40 save into ME2. I then played ME2 on Hardcore (again) to unlock Insanity, which I then played through again. I finished all the DLC and loyalty missions in that save. I think I’m maxed on skill points and Paragon rating.
Recently, I started a Femshep in ME2 for a Renegade playthrough on Insanity. So far, I’ve played ME1 4 times (Normal on Xbox, Veteran, Hardcore and Insanity on PC) and ME2 3 times (Veteran, Hardcore, and Insanity, plus my new Renegade Insanity save).
Picking up ME1 on the PC a few days after ME2 came out meant I did a total of 6 game playthroughs in about 2.5 weeks. This was also shortly before spring exams at college. ;_; Worth it, though.
Don’t think I’ve ever blasted through any video game series like that. Book series, yes…
But on-topic, I’ve never actually played any FF games, but this almost makes me want to.

Having recently (and finally) quit WoW for good, Ive gone back and started playing the original Baldurs Gate. If I have as much dedication as you I might do the full BG1 > Tales of the sword coast > BG2 > Throne of Bhall > IWD > IWD2 + expansions :o)
But first I gotta find patches for BG1. Its so old that I cannot find patches for it on the Bioware website!
Cheers!
The half-life 2 series; cursing valve for not having released episode 3, marvelling at how short episode 2 was and still having staring contests with Alyx.
I’m actually in the midst of playing the Persona series end-to-end – starting with Persona 1, both Persona 2s, and Persona 3 on the PSP, jumping to the PS2 to play P3’s epilogue game, then finishing with either Persona 4 on the PS2 or Persona 4 The Golden on PS Vita, if I drag it out too long.
It is something of a tradition for my wife and I to play through all the Silent Hill games every October. Thank you for reminding me that we are due to get started with that. =) We missed last year due to family stuff.
